This session will explore how UDL can be leveraged to empower students to develop identities as confident and capable writers. Participants will examine an array of student work and video from an inclusive 4th grade class engaged in a unit on narrative writing and an inclusive 5th grade class engaged in a unit on fables and parables. Participants will look for evidence of students’ developing confidence and sophistication as writers. Further, participants will explore the student work from a design perspective and uncover the particular ways in which UDL was applied to reduce barriers and empower all learners to engage in the writing process.
